Passenger traffic at Burbank Bob Hope Airport in the San Fernando Valley rose again in June, the fifth straight month at the San Fernando Valley’s only commercial airfield.
The airport served 336,978 passengers, up 2.8 percent from June 2014 when 327,858 passengers came through the terminal.
United Airlines had the highest monthly increase of the seven airlines serving the airport, helped by adding three daily flights on its weekend schedule serving Denver and San Francisco. It transported 20,397 passengers, up 18.6 percent, or more than 3,000 from a year ago.
Southwest Airlines, the airline with the most flights at Bob Hope, remained flat in terms of passengers served with 247,282, or less than half a percent increase from June of last year.
JetBlue Airways experienced the biggest drop, falling 8.4 percent to 7,525 passengers. Delta Airlines was off 7.4 percent to 6,507 passengers.
Bob Hope Airport has struggled in the past few years as flight traffic and passenger counts dwindled amid the recession, and as carriers consolidated operations at larger airports to keep planes full. The airport is currently in discussions with the city of Burbank over a proposed new 14-gate terminal building to be constructed on the property.
