Bring the whole family to the Tarzana Native Plants Fair tomorrow before the big game! This event is just what our community needs right now to learn how to best support and protect our native wildlife and waters. We need to tend to these precious resources so they can be enjoyed for generations to come. We will also have information on how to grow a beautiful, environmentally-friendly garden with drought-tolerant California native plants. A wide assortment of native plants will be available for purchase.
Come and meet representatives from the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, the California Native Plant Society, the Theodore Payne Foundation and the Tree People, leading ecological organizations that are promoting the propagation of native plants along with land and water conservation. We will also offer a “Citizen Scientist” tour around the garden using the iNaturalist app with expert Richard Rachman from 11 am – 2 pm and a botanical watercolor workshop with artist Leslie Hamilton from 11 am – 3 pm.
The event also features great live music! Recording artist TRACY NEWMAN performs a 30-minute set of children’s songs at 11:30 am; the neo-folk trio JaKL (Jaynee Thorne, Leslie Barker and Karen Tobin) performs two 30-minute sets, one at noon and one at 2 pm; and singer-songwriter HANNAH ROSE LEWIS performs at 1 pm.
City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield will be there to support this important event along with our District Director from the County Supervisor’s office, Tessa Charnofsky. Free vegan desserts provided by Nectarine Catering will be available – be sure to get yours while supplies last!
This is a FREE FAMILY EVENT.
